STUDY OF DANIEL 11

Daniel 11 - How Prophecy Became History

A while back my family and I undertook to study the book of Daniel. We wanted to do an inductive study so we purchased a Kay Arthur study book on Daniel. That study was the beginning of preparation for this “historical” study on Daniel 11 compiled by my son and myself. We went through many books gathering and comparing pieces with Scripture. We believe God’s Word is fact and that history (or science, for that matter) fits Scripture when the facts are all available and properly understood.
It should be pointed out that this "dream" of Daniel was given by God over 200 years before any of it came to pass.  This proves to us that God knows what is going to happen well before it happens AND is interested in the affairs of mankind.  After much study, we derived what we believe to be as accurate a time-connected comparison as has been done by anyone we’ve read or heard. This is the culmination of that research and study.  We hope you enjoy learning from it as much as we enjoyed gathering it.
The copy of Daniel’s writings is from a King James Version of the Bible in Blue. The parenthetical names in Red are the names to whom we believe the prepositions or nouns immediately prior are in reference. Our NOTES are obviously written after the “history” has taken place until we come to verse 35 of Daniel 11. Verse 35, we believe, is the introduction to what shall come about during the 7 to 8 years prior to the time that Jesus Christ, Himself, shall desend from heaven, touch down on the Mount of Olives, and reign on the earth, in Jerusalem, for 1000 years.
Now our rendition of Daniel’s vision as seen through the eyes of “history”, my son, and myself:

NOTE: In the Bible that I use it is estimated that the eleventh chapter of the book of Daniel was written around 534BC, nearly 200 years before Alexander the Great began to take his place in history. We estimate that it was written around 539-8BC, the first year after Babylon had fallen to Cyrus the Great. Why?

Daniel 11:1 “Also I (Daniel) in the first year of Darius the Mede, even I (Daniel), stood to confirm and to strengthen him (Darius the Mede).”

NOTE: To start at verse 1, it seems evident to us that Darius the Mede was the commander of Cyrus’ army that took Babylon, Gubaru. Again, why? 1st - Daniel 5:31 says that Darius the Mede took Babylon at the age of 62. According to the Babylonian Chronicles, Gubaru was born in 601BC which would make him 62 in 539BC, the year Babylon was taken. 2nd - Gubaru was a Mede and not a Persian as Cyrus was. 3rd – "Darius" was a title rather than a name. It meant “king”, “commander”, etc. making it logical for someone to refer to the leader of the Babylonian territory as Darius. 4th - Gubaru was given the governorship of Babylon and the surrounding area for some 14 years. 5th - Gubaru appointed “governors” over Babylonian territories and Daniel 6:1 states that Darius the Mede appointed 120 “princes” or "governors" over the kingdom. Since Daniel said in verse 1 that “…in the first year of Darius the Mede…” he “…stood to confirm…” and Gubaru, as commander of Cyrus the Great’s army, took Babylon in 539BC, it would stand to reason that the year of Daniel 11 should be 539BC or 538BC.
